HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Fellow Quilters & Sewers,

Sure hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I can't hardly believe that we are in year 2010. The time just seems to go faster and faster. I sure am looking forward to an exciting year. This year my husband and I will be celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Wow!!! Both of our parents just celebrated their 50th so we have great examples to follow.

Also exciting for me is my grandson, Taylor. He just turned one in November and is getting close to walking. I made him a raggy quilt for his first birthday. He was so fun to watch at Christmas. I think he was actually more excited about the boxes, ribbons, and paper than the presents. They are vacationing in Florida as I am writing this. I miss them but they will be home soon.

The winner of the Berlin Main Street Merchant (BMSM) Raffle quilt was Renea King from Morgantown, WV. She was very excited when she got the phone call.

Here at the store we just finished our 3-day inventory (fun, fun...not) and are marking down some items for our January clearance.
You can click here to see some of the photos of everyone hard at work.

We also are getting ready to do some rearranging and refreshing again. Change is always exciting so stop by and see what we are doing and take advantage of the marked down items. Everybody here is working on a sewing project and we are getting ready for some classes again. You can see them listed in our on-line catalog.

Just click on Classes/Events and register there or call us at (330) 893-2233 or 2234 to register.

We are updating our website and adding things daily. Watch next for wide backing fabrics to be there soon and also Alma’s Corner which will have some of Alma’s wall hangings and quilts for sale.

You can read about Alma at About Us

This will be great for you to see how creative she is with color and pattern in her scrappy projects. Imagine what your quilt making will be like at age 94. She is an awesome lady!

This past fall, we were treated to a show and tell quilt called “Autumn Joy Baltimore” brought in by Darlene Young. She said she got best of show and also viewer’s choice at a couple of quilt shows. The pictures below do not do this quilt justice as the work on this quilt was phenomenal. It had reverse appliqué, broderie perse, cutwork, beading, trapunto, ruching, and lots of dimensional appliqué and was beautifully hand-quilted.

We always enjoy seeing your works of art that you bring in to show us, so keep them coming. Don’t forget the Amish Country Quilt Show is coming up April 8-10. You can see all 12 of the 2009 Ohio Amish Country Shop Hop quilts there. This is the only time you get to see them all together in one place. Check out our calendar and special events for more dates to remember.

As always, we will be participating in the PJ Party 7-9am January 30th, but don’t forget, you have to wear your PJ’s to get the discount of 30% off all bolted fabrics (min 1 yd cut). We will also have discounts on all regular-priced stencils and books of 20%. Some other specials will run all day, but the first three listed will be 7-9am only! Be sure to clip the coupon you received with this newsletter notification for an additional 5% savings on the 7-9am specials during our PJ Party. Present the coupon at the time of sale to the cashier. If you wish to sign up for this newsletter click on Contact Us.

We still have some Shop Hop fabric left and also 3 setting kits. The fabrics are listed on-line under fabrics/Shop Hop.

The recipe that is listed below is sure to warm you tummy on a cold winter's evening and can be found in the “A Taste of Home” cookbook. You can find it as well as many other delicious recipes
from this area in our cookbooks here at the store and also listed under books in our online catalog.

Lots of fabric, books and patterns coming in so don’t let the gray days get you down, come in and look around or sign up for one of our classes soon to be listed.

Sew long for now,
Linda and the Helping Hands staff

POETRY TO PONDER

My Wife the Quilter
She learned to quilt on Monday,
Her stitches were very fine.
She forgot to thaw out dinner,
So we went out to dine.
She quilted miniatures on Tuesday,
She says they are a must.
They really were quite lovely,
But she forgot to dust.
On, Wednesday, it was a sampler,
She says the stipplin’s fun.
What highlights! Oh what shadows!
But the laundry wasn’t done.
Her charm quilt was on Thursday,
Green patches, blue & red.
I guess she really was engrossed;
She never made the bed.
It was wall hangings on Friday,
In colors she adores.
But she never seemed to notice the crumbs on all the floors.
I found a maid on Saturday!
My week is now complete.
My wife can quilt the hours away;
The house will still be neat.
Well, its already Sunday,
I think I am about to wilt.
I cursed, I ranted, I raved,
The MAID has learned to quilt.
